  59. ACSE/Presentation and ROSE Interface
  60.  
  61. OTS/9000 includes APRI which provides a programmatic interface
  62. (API) in C. This interface is based on the UNIX¬ International OSI
  63. ACSE/Presentation Library specification, Version 1.0.0 dated
  64. October, 1990. The emerging X/Open interface at these layers is
  65. derived from this specification, but was not finalized at the time
  66. of product release. Through this interface, you can establish
  67. associations (connections) with another application process, send
  68. and receive data, and release or abort associations. This API also
  69. allows users to negotiate the association release.  The ROSE
  70. services may be used in conjunction with the ACSE/Presentation
  71. services to perform ROSE request/reply operations.

  73. Session Interface
  74.  
  75. OTS/9000 includes an application programmatic interface to the ISO
  76. Session layer. This API is a library of function calls providing
  77. developers open access to session services and the ability to
  78. develop applications with session layer peer-to-peer communication.
  79. The session API provides connection management for connection
  80. establishment, orderly release and aborts, and data transfer
  81. management for the exchange of normal and expedited data. This API
  82. also provides access to other session services such as token
  83. management, session synchronization, activity management,
  84. capability data, and exception reporting.

  86. X/Open Transport Interface
  87.  
  88. OTS/9000 also includes XTI, an API offering open access to the
  89. connection oriented transport services. HP's XTI has been developed
  90. specifically for OSI and complies with a subset of the X/Open
  91. Portability Guide, Version 3 (XPG3). XTI is implemented as a C
  92. library and enables processes on the same or different computers to
  93. communicate through the use of programmatic calls.

  97. The X.25/9000 and LAN/9000 link products provide simultaneous
  98. support for both TCP/IP and OSI standards.

  101.  
  102. Optional PC-compatible Computer-Based-Training covering
  103. installation, configuration, verification, and troubleshooting is
  104. offered with OTS/9000. The course contains general OSI information
  105. including network administration, system administration, network
  106. architecture and addressing considerations, OTS/9000 specific
  107. capabilities, and a complete example of configuring an OSI network.
  108. The course also introduces the student to support tools such as
  109. osidiag and tracing/logging as well as APIs such as XTI, Session,
  110. and APRI.

  112. Functional Description
  113.  
  114. OSI ROSE and ACSE Services
  115. Multi-System Distributed System Gateway (MSDSG)
  116.  
  117. MSDSG addresses the issue of interworking between Connection
  118. Oriented (CONS) and Connectionless (CLNS) systems. The
  119. functionality is described in ISO Technical Report 10172 and is
  120. referred to as an Active Transport Layer Relay (ATLR). OTS/9000
  121. provides the ATLR functionality, so that systems on CONS networks
  122. may communicate at the Transport layer and above with systems on
  123. CLNS networks, using the OTS/9000 node as a relay.

  125. OSI Network Layer
  126.  
  127. The Network layer corresponds to layer 3 of the OSI Reference
  128. Model. Both the 1980 and 1984 X.25 addressing schemes are
  129. supported. 1984 NSAP addressing is supported over X.25 by taking
  130. advantage of the extended addressing facilities. Internet options
  131. include null subset, nonsegmenting subset, full subset accepting
  132. null subsets, and full subset (discarding other subsets).

  136. HP OSI products are customer installable. OTS/9000 includes the
  137. software and manuals necessary to install, configure, use, and
  138. troubleshoot the product. X.25/9000 and/or the LAN/9000 Link is
  139. required.  Concurrent purchase of HP MMS/9000 (PN:32018A or
  140. 32019A), HP FTAM/9000 (PN:B1032A or B1033A), and/or HP X.400/9000
  141. (PN:32031A or 32032A) is optional. If updating from OTS/9000
  142. Version C.02.00 or earlier, the services, FTAM, X.400, and MMS must
  143. be updated as well.
